Preparing for High school
_It is good to see you starting to prepare for high school. There are a
lot of options for you and a lot of decisions to make. Two of the
biggest decisions are that you find a program at CHS that interests you
and that you start preparing yourself for college.
The Freshman Experience
The Coppell Engineering First-Year Experience - cefx (pronounced "C-effects") - is a new program for all first-year STEM students that helps make your time at CHS rewarding and
beneficial. By honoring your aspirations and supporting your choices, the First-Year Experience aims to enhance your experience and interest in engineering. The
program creates a foundation on which you can create a high school life rich in the joys of engineering, learning, and community. The program includes STEM I, a required course for all first-year STEM students; Community, exploration and development of your interests; and
events and workshops. The program is intended to help you get the most from
your high school career and to support the continuing creation of your
life story.
Summer Camps
For the first time ever, we will be holding our summer camp on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Our summer camp will help introduce students to engineering and the STEM Academy. Students will get to meet other STEM students and work on a number of hands on projects. For more information, check out the Summer camp tab.

Why start as a freshman?
There is no pressure to start STEM in the 9th grade, but there are definitely benefits if you do. First of all, you get a head start on all of the other students.
Competition Teams
We want our freshmen STEM students to join our competition teams. The only way for a 9th grade student to join a team is to be in STEM. While you can't take one of the team specific classes yet, you can still join the team and get a head start. Check out our Competitions page for more info.
Athletics and Band and...
We have a lot of students in band, athletics, and many other programs on campus. We love that so many of our students are involved in other activities on campus. There is no "STEM type". Cloning is for sheep. We are looking for all types of personalities and individuals.
